Last seen on Raw Fusion records and on A Slice Of Paradise, A Bossa Elétrica have been working away on a new album that will be released on their own Connective Records label later in the year. This A Bossa Eletrica is all about classic Brazilian music, inspired by greats such as Jobim, Caetano Veloso, Milton Nascimento, Banda Black Rio, Gilberto Gil and even Seu Jorge. And one of the reasons the new album has taken so long it that they’re seasoned musicians on the Scanadavian scene. With singer Miriam Aida and reed-man Fredrik Kronkvist upfront with Mans Mernsten (pianist/keyboardist/producer, composer) featuring Mats Andersson who is well-known for his Brazilian guitar style both in Rio de Janeiro and Scandinavia, drummer Mans Block (Damn!/Timbuktu), percussionist Ola Bothzen (Koop, Mynta etc) and bass player Mats Ingvarsson (jazzin’ with Geri Allen Trio as well as funkin’ with Damn!/Timbuktu). All the lyrics on this 3 tracks are non-English so I’ve no idea what Miriam is singing about but these guys have done their homework on 70s Latin jazz samba bossa boogie. ‘Sem Escuridão’ has a wicked synch solo and is well up to to Far Out Recordings standards. And the main track is all there a la Joyce, for a full nine minutes of percussive jazz dance cocktail on the beach; the sax solo is very clean mind; reminds me of the feel of Bossa Futura. The opening track, ‘Núcleo Urbano’ is the one with the big horn funky intro and the one I’ll be playing out as it goes into a stuttery 70s synth la-la sing-a-long that’s a bit like a mellow Azymuth meets Kool & The Gang. Wow! Love this track more and more. What with Clara Moreno’s album (Miss Balanço), this is a hot time for Latin, jazz, bossa fusion and there’s a buzz about the album already.
