Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Well that might sound a little forward but AK is a singer/songwriter/producer from Japan that caught the attention of some big names in House from NYC back in 2001. Real big names as it was originally released on the legendary King Street Sounds label that’s inspired by the legendary Paradise Garage. And when we say big, we mean big as King Street Sounds has always attracted all the major producers from around the world and at the same time is a meeting point for the top New York producers. I don’t think they’ve ever released a bad record so they could afford to be a bit coy with the ‘EK-FK’ credit. FK is DJ, remixer, producer legend François Kevorkian and EK is DJ, remixer, producer legend Eric Kupper. So these guys know what to do when it comes to additional production so they called up congealer Carlos ‘GoGo’ Gomez (Nuyorican Soul Orchestra, The Gypsy Kings and Tito Puente) and John Mulkerin for the trumpet solo. Originally released as a Japanese vocal and dub versions, our friend at Pantone Music (Yukihiro Fukutomi, Breakthrough, Jafrosax, DJ Kawaski and - as Gilles Peterson remarked a couple of weeks ago - “the massive” Jazztronik) have gone the extra mile with this special edition re-release as there’s the might dub on this 12”, an English version and a bang up to the minute Danny Krivit edit. Another NY veteran DJ legend with an International reputation, Krivit recently was in London for a 4 hour set at the East Village (Stuart Patterson’s club that’s spending the whole of next week celebrating its 1st Birthday, even bringing back Patrick Forge from Japan and DJ Cliffy to mention only two). Personally, I can’t get enough of the dub version as it keeps it all so simply percussively brilliant (and you can imagine you’re mid session at Paradise Garage) with little bit of keys from Kupper and ‘Go Go’ banging it out but the Krivit mix will, quite rightly, get all the attention. Credit to the Krivit Edit (with apologises to Greg Wilson) and Gav ‘Pantone’ Smith. Reviewed: AK - Say That You Love Me (Pantone Music) Cat. No: pan12011 Release date: 23rd February 2009 Links: |
