Back after the sucess of Annabel (lee) Quartet at the Rich Mix Foundation, the lead track from this new single, ‘(1849)’ is said to be, “like a lost 45 from the 50s”. What 50s is that then? Annabel (lee) is certain well versed in the jazz vocalist that set the benchmark of old; “October seems so lonley” and for fans of Edgar Allan Poe, you’ll know the significance of 1849. The influence of this dark romantic staurates the track in it’s totally hynotic downtempo piano loop. October really does seem so lonley but ‘I Heard’ ups the tempo with some slow deep house like build up of congas and rhodes but with Annabel (lee)’s vocals, some harp touches and minimal bass, it’s like modal chill out. It’s nearly as mesmorising as (1849). He loves, he loves, he loves…..time to go for a swim in the sea. Reviewed: Annabel (lee) - (1849) / I Heard (Further Out Recordings) Cat.
