Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Babylon Circus is a French ska-fusion-pop band that colours its amusement park of sounds with a hint of reggae and a mixture of French and English singing that can make even the grumpiest of persons to jump up and down — which is what you are generally expected to do if you are into ska. Even if you didn’t understand a word of French, the positive, powerful attitude behind each of the songs in their album La Belle Étoile is not hard to miss. It runs as a common theme throughout the whole album: we are here to entertain you, and especially to have some fun, so do enjoy the ride. Even the tracks ‘Des fois’ and ‘Le fils cache du pape’, which are a bit slower than some of the other songs, have that same energetic feel to them. In addition to being played in front of the ska crowd, the album could as easily be played in the dark, smoky French bar. There just is that kind of very relaxing and laid-back atmosphere in them that you would associate to anything French. At least I’d like to think so. So sit back, close your eyes and let that cheerful feeling captivate you. Reviewed: Babylon Circus — La Belle Étoile (Sony Music International) Released 2009. Tracklisting: |
