Paul and Karrie come from Manchester where they’ve been producing for nearly a decade and are best known for the single ‘Labrat’ that went on to be one of Passenger’s highest selling tunes.

These guys are no mugs so when you’ve got a track called ‘Roc The Mic’ you need some experts who can do just that; step up The Ragga Twins. These guys are still doin’ it and the double CD/vinyl compilation Ragga Twins Step Out (on the ever excellent Soul Jazz Records) is still prominently displayed in their HQ Soho shop. They were awesome live when I saw them recently with Aquasky (see review HERE) and ‘Roc The Mic’ doesn’t disappoint - “Time to throw your hands up”. Nobody does it like “us” and they are still the best.

I can’t really see pole dancers dancing to the flip side, ‘Pole Dancer’ so I suspect the inspiration came from somewhere other than Gentlemen’s clubs; what it has got in common with a club is that those dirty synths and big beats on dubplate have proved already that dancefloors move to this one.

Passenger Records’ roll continues to, erm.., roll with tracks like these two and the recently released ‘Freaky Ho’ by The Body Snatchers and Evil Nine’s ‘They Live’. Backdraft’s debut LP We Know Where You Live! is to be released in 2009 and hopefully they’ll be more like this.
