Black Grass - 'Oh Jah'

For those hanging out at the Southern Comfort Fat Tuesday Tent the other week, you’ll probably still be bouncing around and singing along to ‘Oh Jah’

Black Grass - Oh Jah

When I was raving about the Black Grass version of ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’, I must admit I was nervous that the album wouldn’t match up. But then we found One Hundred Days In One was packed with great tracks. And one of the best, ‘Oh Jah’ is lined up for a skanking single release soon.

Fresh Big Chill, Black Grass (aka Mex) was doing the business at Bestival on the Sunday evening. While on the Friday, The Nextmen duo were on fine form with MC Wrec. The Nextmen have excelled on the decks for years, even giving Madlib’s Blunted In The Bomb Shelter a close run with their reggae classics mix CD, Blunted In The Backroom.

The last time I’d heard them they’d done a remix of ‘Roady’ of last year’s album of the year by Fat Freddy’s Drop and they haven’t disappointed with their rather funky remix of ‘Oh Jah’.

The other remix gets on the really heavy side. Mr. Trick of Needlework Records provides the Neutron Riddim. There’s no subtle needlepoint as it gets a distorted Efx on the vocal and a bass that’s on its way to the dubstep basement.

By comparison, ‘Lucha Contra De La Injuticia’ is lifted off the album and is a gorgeous Latin instrumental that’s sure to raise your spirits. To round things off, there’s the instrumental of ‘Oh Jah’.

Folks must be tired of me saying how good the Black Grass album is so I’m happy to report the forthcoming 12” is a blinder; ‘Oh Jah’ indeed.
