Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Not only that, singer Roni has the look of the Bond girl about her but even more impressive is that the trio of Bluba Lu, the other two being Konstantin Katsraki (drums and keyboards) and Dimitar Paskalev (guitars), are joined by a full orchestra conducted by Ilia Mihaylov! These guys hail from Bulgaria and ‘The Black Sea’ mix of ‘To Love You’ is very dark in a broken jazz horn way with metal guitar trash undertows; it’s a shame that one isn’t longer and/or mixed into the techno gitchy dub mix. And not only is the a-side excellent, on the other-side we have, ‘Nevermind’. Nothing to do with Nirvana but follows in the same mood as the symphony mix of ‘To Love You’ whilst the the chill mix has touches of Matthew Herbert’s Big Band (who’s got a new album coming out in November). Both tracks’ original versions are on the forthcoming album World Melancholy and that raises my spirits. One to look out for. Reviewed: Bluba Lu - To Love You / Nevermind (Blubalu Records) Cat.
