Bomaye - A Luaka Bop Sampler

Luaka Bop's Bomaye Compilation plays like the soundtrack to an almost perfect summer day with nothing better to do than let the beats wash over you.

Bomaye - A Luaka Bop Sampler

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

This compilation -- covering Luaka Bop related tracks, from ones as yet unreleased to ones stretching back to the 80s - kicks off with Zap Mama's 'Bandy Bandy', with the sublime vocal talents of Erykah Badu, not a bad starter for ten, and sets the tone for the rest of the collection.

David Byrne's speaking for the record co-operative Luaka Bop when he claims their aim is to 'eliminate the unnecessary, useless and non-pleasure giving information and deliver only that which has been proven to stimulate, to soothe and to satisfy'.

Perhaps this is a rather tall order to serve, but the Bomaye Compilation delivers some superb laid-back to horizontal joints, some with an intelligent pensive vibe, as with Jim White's 'Static on the Radio' featuring Amy Mann (whose melodic drawl could make any track sound cool and disaffected), psychedelic African grooves in Manu Dibango's 'Ceddo End Title' and a wealth of Spanish and Cuban tinged, early 70s funk era influenced tracks.

There are also a couple of nifty remixes including a Funky Lowlives remix of Si*sé's 'The Rain', and the compilation works well as a whole, the listing well thought out and the tracks well chosen.

And with the asking price a paltry £3.99 you'll have change left over to buy yourself some gaping flares, a portable stereo on which to play said CD, and a bus ticket to chillsville.
