Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Brackles (aka Rob Kemp) is a regular on the undercard at the dubstep club night FWD and a regular guest on Rinse FM (they of Alexander Nut and the Rinse compilation albums). This isn’t the new ‘Night’ but it’s not dubstep by numbers either. The a-side, ‘LHC’ (possibly some industrial lubricant to be found in pressurised hose pipe systems?) is a Street Fighter 2 synth pinball inspired by old skool garage in the echo chambers of Lee Perry; sort of bringing El-B (he of The Roots Of El-B) and MJ Cole (he of Gotta Have It) up to date? And talking Street Fighter, on the reverse, ‘Sutorîtâ Faitâ’ is a collaboration with Shortstuff (aka Richard Attley) that takes us into the basement with even tougher synths and baselines. It’s getting mighty crowded in the dubstep world so it’s good to find there is still some imaginative producers that are taking it to the next step; level would be a step too far in this instance but still a very strong 12” that happens to be released on the same day as another Brackles 12” ‘Get a Job / Lizards’ on Applebim’s Apple Pips label. Brackles, certainly a name to watch out for. Reviewed: Brackles - LHC / Sutorîtâ Faitâ (Planet Mu) Cat. No. ZIQ241 Release date: 6th July 2009 Links: |
