If you were at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards bash at KOKO last month, not only would you have seen wunderkind James Blake but also the latest trio on the !K7 label, Brandt Brauer Frick. The trio of Daniel Brandt, Jan Brauer and Paul Frick have made a big impression on Radio 1’s Gilles Peterson and Peterson had them in session this week with two of the big tracks from their debut album ‘Paparaazzi’ and ‘Me Corazon’. If you’re a fan of Christian Prommer’s Drumlesson and Âme mixed in with Agoria’s protégés on InFiné, Aufgang and Brandt Brauer Frick come close as a ELP supergroup of Steve Reich inspired piano led jazz-house. You get the idea, they cover quiet a lot of base as ‘Caffeine’ in minimal train ride techno (great video) whilst ‘Mi Corazon’ verges on the cinematic and ‘Heart Of Stone’ has a underlying 70s Herbie Hancock fusion feel to it. There’s a fair few big albums out this month and whilst this is one came out towards the end of last year in Germany, it’s certainly ging to be one of the big hitters in 2011.
