Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Brian Sanhaji has been releasing techno music since 2001 and has had plenty of time to work out what his stereotype sound is and Stereotype is it. It’s quite a bold move to call a debut album Stereotype in the minimal techno house genre; especially when the opening track ‘Symetria’ is a ping-pong track. Not daunted, the next one ‘Synchrotron’ is similar but with a faster beat. And again ‘Memento’ is faster still (in a metronome type way) with electronic ‘crashes’. Even though ‘Memento’ is a little more interesting, surely this theme can’t continue? Blow me, it does. But by now (O.K. probably after a couple of listens), you can really get into this; ‘Deus Ex Machina’ sounding like a pounding dance beat with type of fire alarm going off in the DJ box. By the time of the appropriately entitled ‘Liftoff’ and ‘Critical Mass’ (currently both loaded on his myspace site - see links below), you’d have thought a rest was in order. Well ‘Critical Mass’ is on the dub-echo side of thing and is my favourite of the set and then there’s the longest track ‘Save Me’ that starts with a long walk into the darkness before it picks up speed. It’s not till ‘On The Turn’ you get any vocals (albeit disembowelled in this case) but ‘A Simple Thing’ is all about the upbeat synth and along with the title track, the CD ends on a high. This album comes nowhere near the variety of say, Butch’s Papillon but then again, I don’t suppose Mr. Sanhaji was looking to go there anyway. He’s giging all around Germany up until Christmas so worth check out his myspace to see if he’s coming anyway near you soon. Reviewed: Brian Sanhaji - Stereotype (CLR) Cat.
