Recently, Hectic has been the Other Side Of Paris with Black Strobe, MOD X, Heavenly Sounds (Thunderbird Service/Wirz), Soulution, Chez Le Coiffeur and even One-Two.

Camille Dalmais is another Parisian who is destined to outsell all of the above with the release of the single ‘Ta Douleur’ (Your Pain). It’s like a female Bobby McFerrin skat in French on a broken stutter in a Matthew Herbert type way. Tipped by no other than Aaron Jerome the other day it’s also caught the ear of Charlie Gillett and Gilles Peterson. One of its charms is that it stands out with it’s childlike toilet humour of fart-like impressions. Along with the accompanying arty video, you can easily see why the Björk comparision spring to mind.

She’s apparently she’s not adverse to dog and cat imitations to create avant-pop the Camille way. For a flavour, check out the video for ‘Ta Douleur’ and the ‘jazzier’ ‘Au Port’.

She’s appeared at the Jazz Café, on Later..With Jools Holland and there’s an upcoming session on Gilles Peterson’s show (30th July) which will no doubt boost the sales of the album, Le Fil which has already been a big success in France.
