Cassette Jam - Don't Lose Control

There’s a touch of irony in the title of Cassette Jam’s latest single as the duo won Cream’s Search For A DJ competition with an 8 deck set up; how didn’t they lose control?

Cassette Jam are the duo of Rory Lyons and Will Graney and this is the follow up to their previous release on the Pieces Of Eight label, ‘Retox’ that was a track much favoured by the big lights of Erol Alkan, Jon Carter and BBC’s Annie Mac and Annie Nightingale.

There’s going to be just as much excitement around the new track, ‘Don’t Lose Control’ is a bit more in the breaks meets Acid-techno area with the hook of “the pills won’t help you now”. Still recovering from The Art Of Acid? Well you won’t get any relief here, as this is a club banger of the highest proportions. They’ve obviously got a thing for the chemical set as Rory Cassette Jam remixed Slyde’s version of ‘Sex & Drugs’ (of the Ian Drury cover) which was rather good as I recall

Talking of remixes, the three here are of the highest quality from the headman of electro dance himself, Headman (remember On & On) who takes us in a more disco boogie area, Kiss FM’s party animals The Loose Cannons (I’m still recovering from seeing them at Bestival 2006!) and the remix name to drop at the moment, Hot Pink Delorean who are based in Boston. They’ve just got there hands on Ninja Tune’s rocking d’n’bers, The Qemists’ ‘Lost Weekend’ and their ‘Don’t Lose Control’ is the heaviest of the four tracks on this EP and if you ask me, they lost control (in a good way); must be played LOUD!

Cassette Jam have now asked to be judges themselves on Budweiser’s Rising Talent 2008 competition, Cassette Jam’s rise won’t be delayed for long as the debut album is promised for release next year and watch out for them on the slopes as they’ve been booked up for Snow Bombing in Maerhoefen, Austria (now in its 10th year!).
