Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Following on from last years’ Planet Mu leftside of Luke Vibert, Brackles, Legion Of Two and the fabulus One Foot In The Rave by Shitmat, here’s’ Ceephax Acid Crew (aka Andy Jenkinson, the younger brother of Squarepusher Tom) album of 14 choice cuts. We’re told that Jenkinson has had it in his mind’s eye to put together a definitive album of Ceephax Acid Crew material (he’s been at it since 1998 at least) and few would deny that United Acid Emirates is anything but. That said, don’t go expecting mass d’n’b/303 mayhem to past as this set is more song-crafted. There are all types of genres on here as in the modern trend. Slipping in and out of 80s computer games, Italo Disco, Tech-house and even a bit of synth pop. So it starts off all racy synth with ‘Cedric’s Sonnet’ that touches on a bit of dirty acid but seems to have its roots in early synth experimentation. ‘Catilian’ and ‘Castilina II’I are an odd mix off d’n’b meets 8-bit Super Mario game boy; ‘Castilian’ is really party on get your raving shoes and start dancing. More subdued is the ‘New River Company’ in a sort of sub-dubstep echo chamber Mr. Lawrence soundtrack way Whilst on the subject, Harold Faltermeyer fans of a house persuasion will gravitate to ‘Commuter’ (actually this has a bit of HST/TGV about it and current favourite of the set) and the appropriately entitled ‘The Celebrity’ and ‘Emotinium II’ is like the Kraftwerk remix, and that can’t be bad. ‘Life Funk’ is a raw-synth ‘Big Fun’ instrumental with some trusty samples whilst ‘Sidney’s Sizzler’ is heart attack inducing if included on any keep fit/Nike pod mix (you have been warned and will be sued on the eventuality of death). And taking of keep-fit, ‘Topaz’ could have fitted into MoS’s Electro greats comp or their Run For Life as it’s very synth pop 80s. Apparently this guy is hot live at festivals like Block and Glade as he pushes the acid sound to the limit - United Acid Emirates is on the limit and it’s great.
