Their reinterpretation of Joe South’s hit ‘Walk A Mile In My Shoes’ was not one of my favourites on the album Sound Mirrors. Six months later when where all thinking about going to Festivals, particularly Big Chill and Bestival, what better time to release a contender as the ‘next’ MixMaster Morris ‘Autumn Leaves’. Henrik Schwarz (of Berlin-based Sonar Kollektiv) is a name to drop on the remix front (as with John Arnold) and it is his nine and a half minute mix that takes ‘Walk A Mile In My Shoes’ into a melancholic jazzy dream world that touches on the dry heat of the Serengeti before reaching its climax. Montreal’s Tiga has a remix pedigree second to none and he’s technoed the track up while keeping Owen’s vocal at the same time. Surprisingly, it works well next to the original version, which is also included on the first 12”. There’s a second 12” coming out with two further massives mixes, by Timo Garcia & the Chesire Catz (8.11) and Tom Belton’s (8.59). It’s going to be a pleasure not avoiding any of these version in the next few weeks. Reviewed: Coldcut - ‘Walk A Mile In My Shoes’ (Ninja Tune) Cat. No. ZEN12 179 Release date: 21 Aug 2006 Links: |
