Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Well they’ve probably just about timed it right as they’ve put together all the old favourites and some new tracks that just about cover all the labels’ trademark sounds. Truly dirtybeatbreakinfunkandhiphop with precious releases ‘Jigsaw’, ‘Batidas Latinas’ and the double a sided ‘Disque O Heights’ and ‘Pa Coco Solo’ (in fact, ‘Pa Coco Solo’ just sounds better and better every time I hear it). New tunes like ‘Power Pac’ and ‘Jellyfish Popcorn’ sound really authentic organ funkers proving they can also cook on three burners a la Baked, Boiled & Fried. They can also do a bit psychedelic-funk with ‘Crossfire’ that should be a TV theme? There’s a couple of vocal tracks (‘You Got What You Wanted’, ‘She Took My Love’) that are arguably not as strong as the instrumentals but as the album as a whole is so hot, we can overlook that. You never know, perhaps one day they could get the X-rated Ms. Candie Payne to plug in some vocals for them. Monday is a busy day for the Breakin’ Bread guys as it’s also they also release Natural Self’s excellent The Love Theme EP. The more the better is a truism in Breakin’ Bread’s case as they keep pushing the next level’s limits. Reviewed: Color Climax - Plug It In (Breakin’ Bread) Cat.
