She seems to have captured the missing link between Björk and Tunng; especially on a track like ‘Illegal’ on which her vocals weave as the band go into a little freeform experimentation (psychedelic?) The title track is the most obvious space-out and ‘Mama From The Mountain’ is in a similar vein but a little more accessible.

‘I Do Not Notice’ is very tape loop stuttery with sparkling stars and she sounds a little like Sol Seppy which isn’t a bad thing. There is a commercial side to her; ‘La La’ could easily have been a single for it’s simple nu-folk sing-a-long but they’ve chosen ‘Missing Link’. You can understand why as the guitars have more of an NME/Indie/MTV crossover appeal.

This album’s full of excellent tracks like ‘Hard 2 Tell’ and my current favourite, ‘Eyes Are At The Billions’ which features Todd Tidwell on ukulele.

Ever Records is a small offshoot of !K7 and is home to Howie Beck (who supported Eighteenth Day Of May on tour earlier this year) and Cyann And Ben. Last week they were part of the !K7 21st birthday party in London. Cortney is light years away from the electro dance of Matthew 100lbs Herbert but you why she is signed to this offshoot. And keeping an eye on those links, have you heard the Henrik Schwarz remix of ‘Ta Douleur’?
