Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. This one’s been doing the rounds a bit but it’s taken a while for me to get up to speed with the sounds of Jukka Reverberi and Luca Roccatagliati (aka Crimea X). Perhaps it was because their last EP was (for me anyway) dominated by “Austrian minimal wunderkind” Florian Meindl and his remix of ‘10 P.M.’ (see full review of Phoros EP HERE). But since then, 2009 has been a year of disco deviants from Norway (Ytre Rymden Dansskola and discJokke), the back catalogue of Disco Discharge and most recently, the mighty three tracker from Tal M. Klein, Magical Horses EP. Whilst Crimea X are from Italy, it’s not obvious in a musical style; with Kraut-disco leaning in ‘Liubov’, a nu-disco re-edit mix of Terry Riley/The Who on ‘Jurij’ and a big 80s production of ‘Varvara’, Crimea X will be the darlings of the new wave of Cosmic Baleric Beats. At first, I guessed that the track titles are some sort of USSR space lab tribute but apparently not. But they are Jurij Andropov (politician) and artists Liubov Popova and Vavara Stepnaova; of no importance anyway as this EP is all about disco dancing in the spaceways of a long past Russian star fleet. And what’s a ‘Chorne More’? It’s Slavic for ‘Black Sea’! Reviewed: Crimea X - Chorne More EP (Hell Yeah Recordings) Release date: 6th December 2009 Links: |
