Daisuke Tanabe - After Few Layers Before EP

Collectors note, this is a special double 7-inch vinyl that brings together concepts of music and art (the vinyl come in gatefold sleeve with conceptual artwork); not only that, the music is great too!

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

The music is a collection of new works steeped in Daisuke’s unique downtempo-electronica soundscapes, resonating with hypnotic, blurred beats.

This is very much in his area of expertise (as spotted with Unrealeased Gems) and as he made his name at CDr (with a track on Burnt Progress 1.1 together with the early Amycanbe remix on 7” single ‘Your Own Thing’. Not only that, he’s remixed Elizabeth Shepherd’s ‘George’s Dilemma’ (that featured on the Besides album, Elan Mehler’s ‘Scheme For Thought’ that turned up on Brownswood Bubblers Two and Aaron Jerome’s modern classic ‘Late Night Mission’.

So with Tanabe’s reputation is high up there in the musical community including Gilles Peterson, who has said he’s “one of Japan’s finest emerging talents” and those Beat Generation types who have been anxious to hear the four tracks in the ‘After Few Layers Before’ collection.

The lead track, ‘Mutualism’, is a heavyweight 8 minutes of jazz bass beat shuffle that’s dark and brooding which is the opposite feel to ‘Cuculus Canorus’ that’s a crazy blippy electronica. It’s got touches of his Japanese heritage in there and it’s quite chirpy. Equally fun is the mess that is ‘Mess’, a track in increasing layers in a broken groove it always manages to make me smile. And then saving the best ‘til last is upbeat ‘One Of Eighty’ as it ping-pongs around at the fair ground.

Along with his previous releases, these tracks highlight the wealth of talent he has and you certainly get the feeling that it’s only a matter of time before he’s one widely acknowledged as one of the leading producers; anywhere that is.
