Hard to keep up with Playtime at the moment following on Worthy & Yankee Zulu’s Bad Side EP and Nick Verwey’s Horn Rash to name just two but this is worth it. Dan Cat (aka Dan Gerrett) was part of the duo known as Cheshire Catz (together with Jon Blond and last seen here with their remix of Coldcut’s ‘Walk A Mile In My Shoes’) but that pairing is no more and now that he’s gone solo, this is the first of a set of new releases. Shir Khan (he of Exploited Presents: Shir Khan - Maximize! and Shir Khan : Exploited) is a big fan of the original version and I can see why as it’s got something minimally techno going on but a little bit Henrik Schwarz-esque in a deep house way with Middle Eastern flourishes and a funky bass; watch out for the sharp finish. A tough act to follow on the remix, but Max Cooper has risen to the challenge with stuttering-wind turbine reworking and another top track from the Playtime crew.
