Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. From the home of YT’s Straight Outta Brittain this is more in the area of Anthony B meets Misty In Roots. Bringing us the prophecy is Clive Darien on vocals backed by producer, writer, arranger, programming, drummer, guitarist, bassist, keyboards and alround top bloke, Gordon ‘Innerheart’ Mulrain. We are currently somewhat spoilt by a wealth of reggae richness with Fat Freddy’s Drop, The Black Seeds, Best Seven’s Selections Vol. 2, the mighty Prince Fatty and Jahcoustix but don’t overlook Darien Prophecy as they definitely have their part to play. Especially, ‘I Will Do My Best’ and the title track as they are the most Anthony B/Morgan Heritage like. The first half of the album portrays the same positive message of Jahcoustix starting with ‘Lift Up The Name’, ‘Cant’ Get Me Down’ and ‘Freedom Must Come’. All good stuff, but it really gets going with the bangin’ ‘Jah Is The Man’. With the added bonus of a couple of survivors of Lee Perry’s album Battle Of Armagideon, the contributions of Lloyd Clarke (sax) and Trevor Jones (trombone) make this an anthem of a tune of FFD proportions. Talking of anthems, until his collaborations with Kieran Hebden, Steve Reid was best known for his track ‘Lions of Judah’. This album has a just the one ‘Lion Of Judah’ and features the melodica of Sam Bennett which gives it an Augustus Pablo element (i.e. excellent). Before ‘Jah Is The Man’ magnificently crashes in, ‘Art Of Love’ is a bit sugary but is saved by its dubby bits so the only one slight downside? ‘Mama’; strictly for Mothers Day only. The CD ends on a dub mix of ‘Hail Him’ but these guys have done their best and it’s great. A proper album that constantly delivers and I bet they’re as good live. Remember, Jah is The Man! Hectic Mix nominations: ‘I Will Do My Best’, ‘Jah Is The Man’, ‘Lion Of Judah’, ‘Natural Vibes’, ‘You Better Be Ready’, ‘Hail Him dub’ Reviewed: Darien Prophecy — Natural Vibes (Saliva Records) Cat.
