Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Now that the CD has finally reached the shops (well, you can now purchase it in Sounds Of The Universe off Berwick Street in Soho - see links below) it’s time for a bit of a update on Ms. Jordan. See we last interviewed Deborah four years ago (see HERE) and since then she has been busy supporting loads of our favourite artists such as Robert Mitchell’s Panacea, Silhouette Brown, Shape Of Broad Minds, Electric Conversation, Replife, Emanative to name just a few. So you get the idea, far too busy to concentrate on getting her own album released? Well, that would be right until now as after the ‘Nothing Lasts / Home’ 7” came out earlier this year, we were beginning to wonder if the album would ever see the light of day (Ed. sorry about that one) but it turns out that all these collaborations were part of the cunning plan. The album features productions from all the best folks around with some dating back to the launch of the Futuristica Music label. You’ll recall Kamara’s track ‘Rise’ (that featuring Deborah on vocals, see review HERE) and he provides the backing to ‘Slipping Away’ which is one of the most dreamy tracks on the album. The album starts with the an intro of the title track, ‘The Light’ but effectively, the haunting soul of ‘Brought To Life’ (produced by Electric Conversation) sets us off and it’s so good, it’ll kill you. But then it’s almost impossible to pick a best track here as next up is the previously mentioned single ‘Home’ (with Replife) with its classy future jazz keys. This one is a Marc Rapson and Soulpersona production who we’re so good on the Enamative’s Space album that came out earlier this year. But it’s not all new faces as there are s some other older production hands that we always look forward to seeing on the inner sleeves, like Atjazz (you’ll recall his Full Circle) album and Simbad (with countless remixes under his belt from Nicole Willis to Fania Legends to Robert Owens) but I must say the ones that are getting to me at the moment is ‘Future Calling’ (who is Aardvark?) and another Rise production, ‘Want It Back’. On the lyric front, arguably the most moving track is ‘One’; “you know the answer is inside you, to guide you” (or perhaps even ‘Breathe’) but for the feet, it’s Atjazz that gets it spot on as ‘Let Go’ is my kinda deep house; “gotta let it go”. Hopefully Ms. Jordan can spare a moment to do a new Hectic interview soon and give us the low down on The Light before she goes onto the next project.
