Digitonal - 93 Years On

The album Save Your Light for Darker Days came out last week to fantastic reviews but you’ll have to wait a little while for the first single from the album and the remix action.

TAOS016.jpg

Producer and multi-instrumentalist Andy Dobson has been writing and performing music as Digitonal since the 1997 but it wasn’t until he met up with Egyptian session violinist Samy Bishai that the Digitonal sound of electronic cinematic atmospherics came to life.

They have appeared at The Big Chill, Bestival, Bloc 2008 and Cheltenham festivals and supported The Bays last year. Unfortunately we’ve missed the album launch gig but here’s the YouTube version of the single.

Wow! how good is that? Like the Future Loop Foundation lost in space.

And talking of label mates of Digitonal, Echaskech (aka Andy Gillham and Dom Hoare) have more of a house feel, but only in an ambient Orbital type way. The (mostly) instrumental ‘Nothing Left To Say’ is a bit of a spacey grower and groover as favoured by Nick Luscombe.

Finishing things off are 65 Days Of Static who have just been on tour with The Cure. I think we’re safe to say, this band from Sheffield are on the more rock orientated end of say Youthmovies (they’re mates) so it’s even more impressive their remix is a atmospheric broken comupter game affair and harpist Kat Arney (Shadow Orchestra, Pete Lawrence’s Chilled by Nature) is not mixed out; in fact she’s the highlight before the climax with a tortured synth, big drums and hand claps.

Definitely one for fans of the electronic cinematica and I’m growing to love all these 3 tracks.
