diskJokke - Rosenrød / The Bund

Now, how cool is a name like diskJokke? It’s got all the mysticism of Scandinavia and the pun on Disc Jockey; Tony Blackburn/Chris Molyes need not apply as this guy is hot with his new Moshi Moshi single, Rosenrød.

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

After such a build up, I’m afraid ‘Rosenrød’ is a bit slow to start with as diskJokke (27 year old Norwegian Joachim Dyrdahl) has gone all dreamy techno trainscape with added 303 emulator for some leftfield Acid house biz. Fans of his 12” from early this year will recognise elements of ‘Asa Nisi Masa’ and ‘Ceardactylus’ here with a touch of Luke Vibert heritage.

Perhaps the acid bits could have been a feature on a remix but lets try the b-side, ‘The Bund’. This is more melodic and has a touch of afro-aboriginal ambient beat; this is definite the pick of the two tracks and a big warm up-intro track for me at the moment.

Fans of the ‘disco’ of fellow countrymen Lindstrom & Prins Thomas and the likes of Cosmic Balearic Beats (Vol. 2 of the compilation is coming out very soon on Eskimo Recordings) will be eager to see if the follow up to his 2007 debut album Staying In is as good as this single.

That said, top marks to Moshi Moshi as this a bit of a departure from their usual indie roster types of Au Revoir Simone, Tilly And The Wall and Mercury nominated Florence and the Machine although you might recall diskJokke did a bit of a Jean-Michel Jarre-disco mix of the Foals single, ‘Olympic Airways’ which was excellent; And love the cover by Andrea Stylden.

Expect lots of ‘next thing’ comments for diskJokke., he’s going to be big.
