Hell seems to be happy to be DJ Hell these days and he’s really got the DJ mix side of this 2CD set sorted. His years of experience turning up the heat on the dancefloor and as producer, remixer and boss of International Deejay Gigolo gives him the advantage compared to us mere mortals.

Even so, it is still a mightly impressive compilation and mix. It’s easily the equal of the previous in the series, remembering that the Freeform Five edition included ‘Eeeeaaooww’ (even as an a cappella it’s a great track), Franz & Shape and Plantlife’s ‘The Last Song’.

It helps that there are at least three tracks that will be with us for a while yet: the Carl Craig Remix of ‘Falling Up’ by Theo Parish, the psychotic ‘August’ (appetizer format so impatient for the full blown version) and Âme’s hit of last year, ‘Rej’. As you can imagine, this alchemist of sound melds these seventeen tracks together into an electro-techno boogie of dance.

When you’ve got such a reputation, you know the big boys will come after you for some remix work. Hell hasn’t let them down and we get ten of his best here. Even though I ran a mile from the Pet Shop Boy karaoke at Bestival in the summer, I’ll concede ‘West End Girls’ is their best track and they wouldn’t let just anyone remix it.

And back at Bestival, ‘We Are Your Friends’ was everywhere there and it’s still such a great anthem. Great to hear Grace Jones again and I think it’s fair to say all the tracks benefit from Hell’s touch including ‘In Diesen Raum’ (although the original is mighty fine).

Although though we’re all recovering from the party season and assuming you’re not going to get to see him for a couple of months (as he gigolos internationally in Brazil and Argentina — see below), get yourself some Misch Masch and have a party at home.
