DJ Shadow - IndigO2, London (Live Review)

Thursday night, London, leave North Greenwich Station and enter the recently-opened 02 building (formerly known as the Dome). The queue is already snaking its way in an anticlockwise direction, in readiness of the forthcoming musical extravaganza

Suddenly, a spokesperson for Shadow starts distributing the new single on 7” and there is an almighty rush to grab as many of the 300 limited copies as one can to get them on to ebay tomorrow to pay for a belated summer holiday.

The venue is lush, beautiful, well designed, has good facilities. Observation of the stage is not restricted from anywhere in the venue and the relaxed attitude of being able to take your drinks to your seat is fantastic.

Support act Pendulum (Australia) with MC Verse really warmed up the room with technological wizardry. These guys are going to blow up. DJ Shadow appeared after a short intermission and expressed his sadness on finishing this tour, but revelling in the fact that he would be on the road again shortly with Cut Chemist.

He pointed out that he had been to London approx 5 times in one year and many of the audience would have seen his show before, but he promised something extra tonight as this would be his last European show.

Without delay, this incredible technical wizard began pressing buttons, and tapping rhythms and the show burst into a musical journey supported by incredible visuals.

The solid JBL Sound system at the Indigo, super-enhanced the show and when Gift of the Gab from the Quannum Collective arrived on stage, his presence just lifted part of the Dome’s roof off its hinges to reveal the wonderful evening sky. (We wish).

I was truly amazed at the programming and the ease with which he was able to cut and paste, samples, visuals and vinyl scratches. It was a solid performance from a creative genius, who mentioned that each project he has to work harder and harder to improve and he stated that he will never be able to re-create En-troducing, because that was then and this is now.

Looking forward, to the next instalment.
