Dr. Rubberfunk - My Life At 33 Remixes

2008 is already feeling like it’s going to be a good year and this remix package from Dr. Rubberfunk keeps up with the pace

Dr Rubberfunk 33Remix

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

Since the release of his brilliant album of last year, My Life At 33 and the 12” remix of ‘Taking Over’ by Ashley Beedle, it’s little surprise that there weren’t a few more lining up to have a go.

First up are the ever-reliable soul gods of the knobs, Yam Who? (not to be confused with Yam Yam of course). Their version of my favourite from the album ‘Theme For A Latter-day Lothario’ (featuring the gorgeous Rogiérs on vocals) gets in a string laden downtempo soul groove for a late night smootch. Hard to beat the original version but this one’s growing on me.

There are two other versions of ‘Theme For A Latter-day Lothario’ available, Lost Idol (founder of Cookshop Records) and a version by Hard-Fi’s tour DJ, Wrongtom. Lost Idol tacks the track in a downtempo dub field that’s a little disconcerting at first while Wrongtom doesn’t mess about as it gets straight into roots reggae with a soulful twist.

The winner of the ‘Taking Over’ remix competition is Dan Shannon who does a great job down at the dirty electro funk factory and I’d advise you to get the dub version for even better effect! Also new to me are Prague’s Broken Beatniks whose version isn’t broken or beatnik, but takes us into another version for a friendly dance floor number.

And to round things off ‘Watch The Tables Turn’ gets two more b-boy re-spins but Ancient Astronaut (great name) and Protassov.

Dr Rubberfunk is still active gig wise so keep an eye on his MySpace site for a nights of bouncey funk.

With over 50 entries of a standard that we only dreamed of Dr. Rubberfunk and the star-studded panel of judges will have their work cut out deciding on the winner. You guys have been busy since we last did this! Big thanks to Rubs and GPS for letting us play. We hope to do it again sometime!”
