You may recall, over the last 3 years Dubben have had a couple of big 12” hits on G.A.M.M, the Rainha Do Dub EP and Kollektoren Dub. This Swedish label is the re-edit side-project from DJ Mad Mats (founder of Raw Fusion Recordings) and by coincidence; Scribble Recordings have poached Palov & Mishkin from G.A.M.M for their second 12” release.

G.A.M.M’s loss is Scribble’s and Resense’s gain. Dubben once again take the mash up route of classic Brazilian tracks and re-stylee dubwise. If you remember the Dubben mix of Juca Chaves’ ‘Take Me Back To Piaui’ on Biggabush’s Sound Sensation compilation, that’s the area we’re in here.

Funnily enough, ‘Heeyyy!’ sounds a lot like a Biggabush production along with the one that’s got us going in the office, the funky dubby ‘Bananas’. Think Studio One goes to the beach and gets sun burnt and ends up bananas.

‘Dubbicho’ is an odd-ball samba with Kingson’s MC Fitta. It’s got that I’m All right Jack sixties whistlin’ going on with the dancehall rap. Currently Barrio Katz’s favourite at the moment. Who is he? He’s their label mate who has a couple of tracks on the first Resense 12”, a rather fine cover of ‘Hush’ and Joyce Jones’, ‘Help Me Make Up My Mind’.

I get the feeling fans of club night Hush will favour the original Billy Joe Royal version rather than this one (or the Deep Purple one for that matter) but it all makes resense to me.

Once again, great stuff coming out of Germany.
