V/A - Eclectic Development Vol. 2 (Sampler) |

What with our old mate Aaron Jerome featuring on the BBC’s Asian Network last month with a “Nepalese Hilltop” mix for Bobby Friction, we’ve got the other side of asian fusion with a track from Universal Taal Project with a slice of dnb meets Bollywood strings with Punjabi vocals (provided by Rocky Singh). Universal Taal Project is the creation musician, producer and composer of Anglo Asian decent, Ranvir Singh Verma. Formerly part of the Sonik Gurus and has worked with LTJ Bukem and Dave ‘Joey Negro’ Lee, little surprise that this track finds his trademark fusion of funk, breakbeat, drum and bass, electro and asian beat that has caught the ears of the Radio 1/Asian Network duo of Nihal and Bobby Friction. In total contrast, on the other side, the eclectic development choice is a delicate piece of indie electronic rock where ‘Time’ slows down to a near full stop. The quartet called Rossmann Frister Project are from the home of electronic music, Sheffield. ‘Time’ find them in an area like a minimal Cornelia with some Koushik from the 1960s. Rossmann Frister Project have a couple of gigs coming up that should impress freshers and old students alike at Coventry University (10th Oct 2008) and Huddersfield University (21st Nov 2008) and their inclusion on Eclectic Development Vol. 2 is bound to find them even more friends. Stay tuned for more news of the album that’s due out later this year. Links |
