Fatboy Slim - The Greatest Hits Remixed |

And the Fatboy’s greatest are mighty indeed and have got your highest profile fans to join in. Chemical Brothers, Junkie XL, Timo Maas, Darren Emerson, Justice, fresh from Secretsundaze compilation X-Press 2 (Beedle, Rocky & Diesel), Switch, darlings of the breaks Krafty Kuts, Jon Carter, Switch and the suitably apt Kid Carpet on ‘The Joker’. Now I won’t tell you Kid Carpet’s joke from Larmer Tree this year as I’m sure he’ll use it again. Everyone should see him at least once. A one-man band of lo-fi kids toys, a nation treasure if ever there was one. Will he ever be as big as Norman C? You can’t see it but just ‘cos a guy is super popular, it’s no reason to be down on him. If it wasn’t for the theme tune ‘Right Here, Right Now’ who knows we’re the crazy world of superstar DJs would have gone? It’s great to hear a fresh edit and the Chems keep up the level with their remix in typically CB style. There’s no truer title than ‘Everybody Need A 303’ (everyone needs a Tenori-on hasn’t got the same ring to it), and Plump DJs really emphasise the point. And those old videos? Staple fodder of MTV top 100 [insert category] ‘Rockafeller Skank’ and ‘Weapon Of Choice’. Junkie XL does a Plump DJ job and mighty fine it is too. Darren Emerson and Timo Maas ‘av it big time and it doesn’t take a genius to see why Manumission were tied up to ‘Love Island’ (was this big in Ibiza this summer?) CD1 ends on a high with a ‘noise’ attack from Simons GT on ‘In Heaven’ that really has done me in. I If you don’t fancy doing a mash-up mix, there’s a guide from Kidda with his ‘Bouillabaisee’ mix. Of course, Norms still sort after for the remix himself as recently Trojan have put out ‘Skinhead Train’ and watch out for his version of ‘Radioactivity’ coming out next month; yep the Kraftwerk tune! So with a current burst of activity, the cynic might think Norman’s after a quick couple of quid to fluff up Skint Records balance sheet and don’t Brighton need a new stadium? It might be true but don’t overlook the fact that this man, at the top of his game, was the funk-soul brother from another mother that led the way. These remixes haven’t let him down and even if you don’t get it straight away, get it for your Mum at Christmas and make the old girl happy. Hectic Mix nominations: ‘Everybody Need A 303’, ‘Weapon Of Choice’, ‘Star 69’, ‘Sunset Bird Of Prey’, ‘Song For Shelter’, ‘In Heaven’ Reviewed: Fatboy Slim — The Greatest Hits’ Remixed (Skint) Cat.
