Few Nolder - New Folder

Back on Planet Mu, after some detours of late into the lands of acid rave, dupstep and the bass scene, the New Folder gets us back into techno and IDM with an unusual flip.

Few Nolder is a Lithuanian producer known as Linas Strockis and New Folder is his debut album. It follows the ‘No Mo’ / ‘Brenn’ 12” that came out at the start of last year and it’s not the usual sound that you associate with Planet Mu. And then again, if Planet Mu were into techno, disco and deep house, this is how you’d want it to sound.

For instance, there’s just the one vocal track, ‘El Snig’ (featuring vocalist Rut) and is a fine example of modern leftfield house music (soulful vocals with a water mill of a soundtrack cut up and spliced) whilst ‘Pillow’ is a future disco dreamland. And with a background as a professional piano player in Lithuania this is very much his own take on electronic dance music.

There’s a warmth and harmony to this album, ‘Fluttery’ is chilled out but ‘Top’ ups the pace and is a really synthy top (whoops) track and ‘Chika’ is a bit of a banger with radio wave signals to space (touching on a bit of Madtone).

For a bit of Moroder disco influence, go straight to ‘Malyska’ and the CD ends on a couple that are times ambient, ‘Skriek’ and ‘Brenn’ that have got something of King Roc’s Chapters about them.

This album has been recommended for fans of Arctic Hospital (Lantern), Andreas Tilliander (Adrian) or Brothomstates (WARP), but if you’re in house, disco and general electronica-minimal-techno-tech house, this is a great album that keeps you thoroughly entertained for 70 minutes; the ‘No Mo’ / ‘Brenn’ 12” was no one off, the album is just as good throughout.
