Florian Meindl - 8 Bit Romance

When you get Radio Slave to remix Florian Meindl and it lasts nearly 20 minutes, all I can say is “Hell yeah!”

FlorianMeindlRadioSlave.JPG

You’ll recall we were hot on the buzz that Florian Meindl was causing in the minimal tech world last year (see our interview in January HERE and Tears Of A Dreamer).

If you’re familiar with the omnipresent Radio Slave (aka Matt Edwards), either with his own productions, remixer of choice or half of Quiet Village, (and who would want to avoid him?) don’t expect his mammoth remix of ‘8 Bit Romance’ to be like his work on Misch Masch Vol IV. Actually, you’ll find his usually dancefloor tendencies even more minimal than Florian’s, with the cinematic elements of Silent Movie with due reverence to electronic prog-Kraut-pioneers Tangerine Dream/Kraftwerk/Can et al.

‘Marble’ and the original version of ‘8 Bit Romance’ is well pacey by comparison and is definitely in Meindl’s style of busy minimal house; Radio Slave on speed so to speak.

Florian has gone some way since the Koletzki & Meindl Remix of Rocker’s Hi-Fi’s ‘Push Push’ (lets not forget the new album by the ex-Hi-Fi himself, the 13 Faces Of Lightning Head). With Koletzki, he formed Flash Recordings (see Reality Is On Its Way) releasing 12s by themselves and other artists like Daso & Pawas and the prolific and Great Stuff Recordings stalwart, Lützenkirchen.

Perhaps still a bit early to vote Florian as the next Richie Hawtin (who in on the cover of Wire this month) but with this exceptional remix by Matt, more and more people will be championing his cause (remember where you heard of him first though); and all this on a small label out of Italy! This is the logical next step for Hell Yeah since Pirate Robot Midget (see HERE) but I’ve loved this all week as it just gets my soul high. Hell Yeah! Buy it by the bucket load.
