Four Tet - Remixes |

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. We know the type of stuff Four Tet (aka Kieron Hebden) likes to listen to at home from his recent DJ Kicks (Studio !K7) compilation, and Remixes released on Domino Records follows that same style of music; ambient, leftfield, jazz, hip hop, funk, down tempo, funk and the experimental! There’s no question that he’s prolific on the remix and while we would have pushed hard for his Anne Wirz, ‘Guerrière’ remixes and the recent Archie Bronson ‘Dead Funny’ remix, there’s still more than enough here to keep us entertained. In fact, there’s never a dull moment. I’ve been avoiding Radiohead for many years now but after the release of Exit I’m more than happy to catch up. The remix of ‘Skttrbrain’ is like listening to a Four Tet track with Thom Yorke featuring on vocals; the highlight for me was the twisted sax at the end. The second CD has the remixes of material by Four Tet covered by other people, many of these have only been available on vinyl to date. This recording looks a little hotchpotch in comparison although our favourites include ‘A Joy’, which gets the Perece P, Battles and Koushik’s mixes and the Sa-Ra Creative Partners on ‘Sun, Drums and Soil’. And if you are looking for drums, Bonobo’s ‘Pick Up’ gets a Steve Reid style workout. While the longest track on the compilation is a remix of ‘Carmella’ by Beth Orton which gets a bit of an acid-folk treatment. Four Tet’s demand on the remix scene seems understandable after listening to ‘So Here We Are’ by Tunng’s favourites Bloc Party and Sia’s ‘Breath Me’. What with Four Tet’s collaborations with drumming legend Steve Reid on The Exchange Sessions, further releases are eagerly anticipated, and at this rate, we haven’t got long to wait.
