Funk Mundial #2 presents Sinden + Count of Monte Cristal - 'Tamborzuda' |

We all knew that that collaborations on Funk Mundial #1 were going to produce something special as Austria’s Stereotyp teamed up with Edu K and Joyce Muniz. Perhaps only the main man at Man Recordings, Daniel Haaksman would have thought of putting together Graeme Sinden and Joshua “Herve/Count Of Monte Cristal” Harvey and MC Thiaguinho though. Apart from being on Kiss FM and playing Rio Rox, Sinden is part of the leftfield house set of DJs and producers led by ubiquitous Dave ‘Solid Groove/Switch” Taylor, Jesse Rose, Trevor Loveys along with Herve. Their most recent work together as a pairing has been for Counterfeet which has been described as ‘ghetto house’. However, Sinden is at the cutting edge of most underground dance scenes and with Herve, they’ve created their own rave baile funk. The main ‘rave new world’ mix would put Aldous Huxley on a sleep-learning curve that splits the thump of 90s rave with MC Thiaguinho’s rap of ‘Tamborzuda’. MC Thiaguinho is a former member of Rio’s baile funk band Bonde do Tigrão and he’s got that Edu K rawness to his delivery. The end result of this link with London’s finest has already been labelled speed baile or garage funk Carioca. Perhaps the labels can wait like when hip hop and electro were happy bedfellows and nobody cared about the labels and just felt the music and danced. Of the other mixes, the ‘Sin Rave’ mix is more cosmic but the instrumental ‘Bass + Beats’ mix is more in my comfort zone; there’s loads of time to be shouting ‘Tamborzuda’. Apparently this track has gone down the proverbial riot at the recent World Music Conference in Miami and whenever the Dubsided/Counterfeet crews play out. Time to fall in love with something new and feel the hype. Reviewed: Sinden + Count Of Monte Cristal Featuring MC Thiaguinho — ‘Tamborzuda’ (Man Recordings) Cat.
