You may recall that One Week To Live made this their record of the week recently and it is every bit as good as they said; to be precise, they called it “Schizophrenic Brazilian-infused thug house!”

The big tune is ‘Para De Graçinha’ (Stop Making Fun Of Me) and its got all the right wobble in a Zero dB goes baile funkin’ with MC Leka in a house of ska way. It’s a different type of manic to ‘Tamborzuda’ (Sinden + Herve’s Funk Mindial#2) as Phra and Bot (for it is they that are Crookers) develop their brand of Euro crunk. Yeah, that’s what they’re calling the raw form. Check out their MySpace madness and ‘Aguas de Parco’ that came out last month on Italy’s Big Sur label.

So, what’s going on the b-side? It’s ridiculous as it’s a soca tune! Well not really, but it’s called ‘Soca Ali Baba’ (this time with MC Dandão on rap duties) and it’s in a warped Jack the House electro swing in Hell type of way.

And these baddest baile b-boys kill it off with the explosion of ‘Atomic Baile Boy’ — which will make your ears bleed. This is hardcore and the hottest ticket in town this week is for Crookers on Friday at Adventures in the Beetroot Field at Fabric, London (see links below).

And if you’re in town and still support records stores, I noticed that Sterns in Warren St. have moved their vinyl around but they’ve got a stock of Man Recordings’ Funk Mundial series (at the time of writing anyway, see links below). Just can’t wait to hear bossman Daniel Haaksman play out again as his box must be overflowing with such gems as this Crookers 12”.

This is the biggest 12 around as all 3 tracks puts the Funk in P-House. It’s the sound of the summer.
