General Midi - Four Million Ways

General Midi leads from the from the front with his latest statement of intent, Four Million Ways that’s going to blow up.

It’s been a whilst since General Midi (aka Paul Crossman) released his debut album Midi-Style on Distinct’ive Records (they of Y4K → The 20th) but he’s yet another of Bristol’s leading lights and this new single shows that he’s lost none of his love of old skool electro breaks and a little bit more.

He may have four million ways but ‘Four Million Ways’ is just in ya face punk-break electro beat; with Foreign Beggars’ Orifice Vulgatron in the ‘Tricky’ role; “get your feet of the ground instructions” are matched by killer warp factor synth-guitar thrash.

This is an intimidating track to be asked to remix and to his credit, Dee Zed’s remix is not that far from Midi’s own but the one that will get crossover action is Ginz’s Purple Interpretation. Influenced by his ‘Purple City’ and ‘RE-UP’ collaborations with Joker, dubstep goes dirty electro-punk Ginz is known a 30Hz, Emptyset (as in October’s Caravan Recordings), P. Duffy, half of The Body Snatchers and James Ginzburg, he moved to Bristol from Washington DC over 10 years ago and launched Vertical Sound Recordings and founded dubstep label Tectonic (don’t forget Plates Vol. 2 launch party at the Arches next Friday).

The General Midi mix is so loud it puts the album version in the relative shade but wih the new album Operation Overdrive is coming out soon, everyone fully expects another CD crammed with tracks as good as his last as it’s taken the best part of four years for this perfectionist to fine tune.

As a DJ, he’s been all over the world and this is another stonkin’ release that he can add to his box of 12” ammunition.
