Stefan Moerth (aka Stereotyp) has amazed us with his proficiency on his own releases (My Sound), the project with Al Haca (Phase III with ‘Blaze ‘n Cook’ etc), his Megablast remix (the still stunning ‘Jupita’) and now a remix of ‘Black Barbie’ from the album Pure Breed Mongrel.

Stereotyp has no time for any ‘Black Magic Woman’ references of the original and goes all electro tribal beat. There’s only one minor Hectic gripe about the remix, which is as it’s largely an instrumental version, the remix retains the line, “washing up, washing up, she likes to do the washing up.” Such idealistic domestic bliss has no place on my dancefloor. On that basis, it’s the instrumental version that gets the vote for the Hectic mix. Also, you can really feel ‘typ’s trademark ‘likkle Sci-fi future twist’; you know, the electro gunfire, phazer stabs ‘n stuff.

You can still catch the Modeselektor ‘Black Barbie’ remix on the Jahcoozi myspace site but this is the one that’s going to be throbbing my speakers for sometime. It’ll sound monstrous on a big system — Dub Club launch party? (Note: Matthew Herbert is definitely at the Dub Club in Vienna on 12th June).

Can’t wait for the next Stereotyp instalment and feel mighty foolish now for not going to the Jahcoozi at 93 Feet East last night. Suggest you don’t make the same mistake when they’re near you next.
