‘BLN’ is the most overtly commercial of the tracks on Blitz’n Ass, the follow up to the debut Pure Breed Mongrel of a couple of years ago. The trio of Robert Koch, Sasha Perera and Oren Gerlitz are back with more of their Berlin style B-More dubstep hip hop electro-pop. And when I say ‘pop’, there’s a health warning as its more potty mouthed crunky pop but done with great style, like the dancefloor killer ‘Getyoshitout’. And their acerbic wit and cultural observation is still as sharp as on Pure Breed Mongrel with tracks like ‘BLN’, ‘Style’, ‘Gameboy’, ‘Double Barrel Name’ and ‘Takin’ Your Street’. ‘Takin’ Your Street’ is the only dirty beat track that links gentrification with skinny jeans cutting off blood supply to your feet! Nobody is safe from their attack, even David Bellamy gets ridiculed on ‘High-Tech’ with guest M. Sayyid (he of Antipop Consortium) joining in (worth it for the line of “rhyming big words with infinity”). And again they get the help of one of our favourite knob twiddlers Stereotyp (you’ll recall his ‘Black Barbie’ remix) as he helps puts ‘Disposable’ in the re-cycling bin and another favourite, RQM contributes to ‘Flatline’. These lot just don’t stop with ‘Chill Jill’ for the nu-ravers in the house and ‘Rainbow Coloured Rizzla’ is a track is more in their electro-reggae stylee. JA radio won’t be playing it as it has great lyrics that more than challenge any thoughts that the fight for gay rights pretty much won these days. There’s an intermittent but extensive tour over the next few months to promote the CD (as below) and they’ll definitely worth the trip out to see. Tour Details: Hectic Mix nominations: ‘Rainbow Coloured Rizzla’, ‘Getyoshitout’, ‘High-Tech’, ‘Disposable’, ‘Flatline’ Reviewed: Jahcoozi — Bitz’n Ass Links: |

Lifestyle mad Notion begins a bi-monthly residency ‘Stand And Point’ at Cargo (15.02.08) with a showcase of eclectic underground music. Moody electronic indie duo The Black Ghostsss (Simon Lord, formerly of Simian Mobile Disco, and DJ Touche) headline, as fidget house maestro Herve plays hip-hop and dancehall influenced house. Berlin’s Jahcoozi - two producers and a frontwoman Sasha Perera - mash up grime and rap with glitchy electronica, broken beat, dubstep and booty bass, and show off recent LP ‘Blitz ‘n’ Ass’.
