And talking of writing, this guy has recently put his name on a three album deal with Big Dada!

I suspect both parties are well up for it as he’s one of the originals of the grime scene both as an MC and a producer with a collection of acclaimed mixtapes under his belt. In fact, Jammer nearly signed with Big Dada before and played at the 10th Anniversary party (with the album Well Deep: Ten Years Of Big Dada Recordings) and they released the particularly grimey Jammer remix and revox of ‘Colossal Insight’ on Roots Manuva’s Alternately Deep album that came out almost exactly 2 years ago.

Anyway the man with the murkle (as in aka Murkle Man) has got top producer Rapid (best known for his work with Tinchy Stryder) on a return to bass-heavy grime to brag his way through ‘Better Than’ with some sharp put downs; and not always the obvious, “better than Ben, better than jam”! So there is a bit of Scroobius-style thinking going on (‘Get Better’) as he it’s more proof that rappers need not fall into the dull rap stereotypes; even if he’ll amuse his mates Dizzee and Wiley.

On the remix, taking things even further into the dark underbelly of dubstep form West Coast beatmaster Lorn who is part of Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder crew (who were over here last week as part of the Red Bull Music Academy, as previewed HERE and with the new Daedelus EP coming out on the Brainfeeder label, see review HERE).

The Protoypes take on things is far more 100mph drum ‘n’ bass main room on the electro buzz with both vocal and instrumental versions.

Jammer’s first full album Jahmanji is scheduled for June release and it’s going to be better than most by the sound of this one.
