Jammer - Jahmanji

“Jammer’s template is focused to the point of feeling limited at times but the tunes have a velocity that crackles..”

Not my words but right on baby!?

Since the ‘Better Than’ single (see review HERE) we’ve been hanging on for the debut album that’s now on Big Dada.

Where do you start with “Jahmanji!”? The album has been the best part of a decade in the making. And that’s a strength as the 13 tracks are both contemporary and retro all at the same time.

Being a respected MC and producer he’s got thie pick of his makes to help him out on the collabs and these include Skepta, JME and Frisco from Boy Better Know turning up on ‘10 Man Roll’, the Newham Generals (still the best name to come out of the East London grime scene) on ‘Bad Mind People’ and Jammin and Hainsy ‘One 4 Me’.

There’s a touch of the old nepotism as cousin Camalot (himself a member of BBK) turns up and there’s a reggae vocal from Lickle J and more soulful contributions from Kivanch and the now very sadly deceased Shiv Lizzy.

On the production from, Gilles Peterson’s favourite Radio 1 DJ, Toddla T (he of Skanky Skanky) produced previous single ‘Party Animal’ and co-produced the club friendly ‘Back To The ’90s’.

Jammer showcases a new grime sound on his own productions like ‘Murkle Mode’ and ‘Walking Duppy’ whilst ‘Better Than…’ still sounds fresh.

Jammer is one of the true pioneers and is one said to be one of the few people in London who can count both Dizzee Rascal and Wiley amongst his friends and who has worked with Kano, Tinchy, Chipmunk and just about everyone else; even Roots Manuva! It’s about time he got to be the star.
