Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Belgian-based Jaune Toujours shot to fame in 2000 with Brusk - the world’s first taste of their brand of feverish new folk. This is their first live album and flits between rampaging accordions, sometimes chilling trombones and gypsy punk pop. It encompasses both moments of melancholy and high octane chases. At its most manic lead singer Piet Maris’s voice has a touch of Manu Chao but generally lacks the warmth of his tones. It has the raw edgy feel you would expect from a live album and the intermittent sounds of the audience add a sense of intimacy as well as leaving the distinct impression that one is rather privileged to be sitting on the performance. Club is an album that may take more than one attempt; the mixture of gypsy wedding band, Belgian punk, warped jazz and east-European balladry is not a recipe for instant success but it does at least warrant a second listen before you make up your mind.
