JazZstePpa are a bit a of different take on club based dubstep as the trio comprise AndrEa (vocals), BarBie (trombone, MC, effects) and Xperimentalist (DJ, drums, effects) and they can swing as hard as Cab Calloway in his prime.

Tony “Moody Boyz” Thorpe’s Studio Rockers label have already released thier signature tune ‘Big Swing Sounds’ and this new track, ‘Investment Decision’ opens in similar fashion before it gets stuck into bassline boogie.

On the flip ‘Sweet Tooth’ features the big soul vocals of Erika set to “ultra-bright and ebullient orthodox dubstep benefitting from production from Mr Moody Boy himself” that’s followed by the dub version; remember previous goodies from The Moody Boyz like his work with Prince Fatty, the remix of Mr. Manuva’s ‘Again & Again’, the fantastic remix of Erykah Badu’s ‘Honey’ or more recently the single ‘Freedom’ featuring Pete Simpson?

There’s just enough room for the very brief ‘Perspective’ (45secs) of their own take on Napalm-Death-Jazz.

Now I don’t like the term “Death Jazz” but I do love Soil & “Pimp” Sessions and if you were lucky enough to catch them at WOMAD (see my interview with Shacho HERE) you’d be mad to miss JazZstePpa tonight “With new drum trigger setup thing!”

I was lucky enough to see Jazzsteppa at the Big Chill Festival last year and with this new release, they just seem to be getting stronger and if you can’t see them live, catch their videos (see links below); it’s like Duke Ellington meets Jahcoozi with a big ‘bone - imagine that!
