Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. Inspired by the Caribbean and American grassroots music of reggae, folk and latin musics, the overall mood here is bright, breezy and laidback; in other words, a perfect soundtrack accompaniment to the summer season. Jehro is the result of Cotta’s tireless work studying his favourite pop standards and the priceless wisdom that he gained from immersing himself in the music and ideas of Spanish and Jamaican musicians. Opener ‘Everything’ is tropical soul at its finest. The gorgeously sultry vocals of Jehro shine not just on this opening track but consistently throughout the entire album. ‘Long Is The Way’ begins with a intricate harp solo, and plays out with a slow grinding groove with has an almost dubby feel to it. ‘Sweet’ swings like no other and even has slight leanings toward candy pop. The undoubted highlight however is ‘Shantytown Carnival’, its beauty radiates and its infectious groove will have you swaying before you even realise. Also included are two bonus tracks, a cover of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Master Blaster’ injected with as much soul as the master blaster himself and ‘Everything’ an alternate version of the album opener. A mature, exotic album ‘Jehro’ provides the sunshine vibes we all seek during the summer months. |
