Jesse Rose Feat. Hot Chip - Forget My Name EP

That’s certainly not a name to forget. Don’t forget Jesse Rose as you’ll be needing this 12” for the festive season as it’s going to be massive.

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

We still love Jesse Rose’s album of 2006, Presents More Than One where he got together with a loads of tech house mates including the ever brilliant Henrik Schwarz.

Even though he’s based his ‘Made To Play’ night in Berlin, ‘Forget My Name’ is going to be worldwide as it’s anything but “same shit” house. The story goes that ‘Forget My Name’ evolved when Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard spent the weeking hearing nothing but indie music when playing Germany’s massive Rock AM Ring Festival. So he then calls up Jesse and they made ‘Forget My Name’ together. There’s a touch of Hot Chip popness in there but I must admit, after seeing Joe Hot Chip Plays Hip Hop in the Club Tent at Bill Chill this summer, I’m warming to their savvy electro pop (in my defence, I got their early for the mighty Toddla T). Anyway, there’s going to be loads of Hot Chip stuff next year as there’s a new album Made In The Dark released 4th February and there’s a forthcoming R-O-S-E album, What Do You Do If You Don’t.

So just as Joe’s DJ set at Big Chill was a bit of a revelation, ‘Touch My Horn’ could have been inspired by a weekend listening to the hot brass of Hot 8 Brass Band (who rocked the Open Air Stage at the Big Chill on the Saturday afternoon). It’s not the same as ‘Forget My Name’ or the dreamy dub version (slip in some ‘Ghost Town’ if you like) but it’s hard as a funky horn. Oh yeah! Lets get some hand claps going, “squelchy quasi-B-more” indeed. This is tune of the month for me and remember, Rose doesn’t do “same shit” house.

Rose’s new year eve gig with Diplo sounds like it should be the place to be on the globe this year as the pair of them are DJ party animals (now there’s a thought, Diplo remixing ‘Touch My Horn’?) But anything by Jesse Rose is thoroughly recommended; can’t wait to hear more about his collaboration with Henrik Schwarz. We won’t be forgetting his name at all.
