John Arnold & Jeremy Ellis - Nightlife

This is such an all-winner! It’s been a “go to” track since this time last year with plays on Gilles Peterson’s Radio 1 so it’s definitely about time we had some nightlife!

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

John Arnold and Jeremy Ellis were so Ubiquity Records a while back (you’ll recall the Style & Pattern album) and as multi-talented Detroit producers, we can’t wait to hear anything new from them. So when Peterson started playing their monster debut 12” last year called ‘Nightlife’ I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.

If you’re into disco, soul, boogie of 70s Isley Brothers you’ll love this as the first release on Future Soul Records. In fact, we now find out that ‘Nightlife’ is a cover of the rare and sought after release by Blackbyrds guitarist/song writer Barney ‘Blair’ Perry in the late 1970’s at the height of the Boogie and Disco era but you’re not going to find that and I suspect this version is even cooler.

In addition to the original, there are three funky house remixes (including a dub & instrumental) from Bugz in the Attic linchpin Daz-I-Kue. And by a strange coincidence, Peterson’s guest this week was Joey Negro who is clearly a musician who is influenced by the soul and funk of the classic 70s era (GP seems to have only just caught up with the Moving With The Shakers album) and he also play Daz-I-Kue’s remix of Soul II Soul’s ‘Fair Play’, Daz-I-Kue clearly rejuvenated with his move to the U.S.

This one is being played by all the big boyz like Mad Mats, Gilles Peterson, Kev Beadle, Nik Weston (of Mukatsuku) and loads more so buy now and may it never leave your box.
