Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. We know the Qemists dem like King Cannibal with his remix of ‘Dem Na Like Me’ and he’s been busy with some vocals from France called Face-A-Face to twist out some dancehall, dubstep & bass with thumb piano! Think of a female MC Solaar does some acid house and with Dilpo on the remix a la Baile Funk of Villiers-le-Bel Favelas; love the ‘la, la, la, la,la, la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la, la,la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la bit. Oh, so French. And it’s also got the spunk of Jahcoozi’s Blitz’n Ass and whilst we love everything that Robert Koch does (including his Cerebral Vortex excursions), the b-side, ‘Murder Us’ came about after KC met Sasha Perera (also of German group Jahcoozi) whilst in Berlin late last year. Uncannily, it turned out that they used to live about a mile away from each other in South London back in the day but had never met before. ‘Murder Us’ musically takes us to the Berlin techno aesthetic of 24 hour plus parties in clubs like the Berghain where Florian Meindl and Oliver Koletzki “Get Wasted”; so to speak. It starts off all dark and I’m guessing that Sasha got messed up with King Cannibal and KFC imagery as he gets into the idea of battery chickens in a box as a metaphor for the inner city life; “you / me, battery chicken in a box”. Well from my time in Balham I wouldn’t say it was that socially isolated but where this track ‘Murder Us’ gets to murder us is as it progresses into full on 4×4 head bang techno with synth knifes out to stab you with trade mark bass madness. Radio 1’s Queen of the dubstep/experimental, Mary-Anne Hobbs has already declared King Cannibal’s music as “too dark!” even though she was a fan of the debut single ‘Aragami Style’; along with other heads like Eddie Temple-Morris, Ninja Tune’s The Bug, Strictly Kev, Bong Ra, Kid 606, Knifehand Chop and Ebola to name a quick few. By coincidence, I was in Kingston-Upon-Thames the other day and this is where it all started for Richards (then aka ZILLA) with his friend Buddy Peace (he of the impromptu performance in Banquet with Daedelus, see HERE) with the sort after A Friendly Game of Chess mixtape. So whist the shop is selling Buddy’s solo album, he’s left them to get some higher education in sound. So that leaves the way clear for King Cannibal’s bass terrorism to murder us - yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! This is a proper double A side but I do prefer ‘Murder Us’.
