Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. There are not that many folk who can say their career started as a DJ presenting and producing his own show on Radio Caroline (and even fewer that would get onto Fly’s pages). Kormac went on to another pirate, Power FM and has played at all the major clubs and is now part of the Dublin band 8Ball. Spotted by the masterminds of the Scribble empire, Stee ‘Formula’ Downs and Trevor O’Shea, the title track has been picked up by DJ Yoda as one of the many tracks in his Essential Mix for Radio 1. It you’re into the mix mayhem of DJ Food, wobbly beats of Mr. Scruff, loopy tunes of Nanny Tango and the inventiveness of Lemon Jelly, this is the EP for you. Bix Beiderbecke on the 1s and 2s as we scratch to the hip hop march of the title track and ‘Rainstorm’ has the somewhat disturbing chorus of: “Comes a rainstorm, put you’re rubbers on your feet” and owes a debt to the rave of 1920s big bands. Of the three tracks, I think I prefer ‘Harry’s Record Machine’ but they are all good fun. You can see Stee at the Scribble Party in Dublin with Kormac and other “high and mighty influential friends” (see details below) so start practising you’re Scratch Marchin’ dancin’. I am hoping to get an interview with Stee soon, so stay tuned. Reviewed: Kormac — Scratch Marchin’ EP (Scribble Records) Cat. No. 001 Release date: March 2007 Links: |
