Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. From behind Kate Rusby the rest of the entourage grin (in a sinister manner) from the back seat. Drever knows there are only two choices: pack up and leave town or join Rusby’s folk mafia. He makes the sensible choice and produces the album that will make his name, Black Water. This is how I’d like to imagine things started. I fear the reality is less dramatic, but it would account for the appearances by Rusby, Ewan Vernal, Ian Carr, Donald Shaw, Andy Seward, Andy Cutting, John McCusker producing and others often seen in Rusby’s company including Eddi Reader and Roddy Woomble. Musings on the folk mafia aside Kris Drever is a man to look out for in 2007 with his Scots-rooted folk, a fantastically rich voice, a thoroughly modern folk guitar style and a line-up which assures him some decent recognition (already apparent as he was awarded Horizon Award in the 2007 BBC Folk Awards in February). This is also the album with the finest bonus track I have ever heard. What are you waiting for? You wouldn’t want to cause any disrespect… Black Water is released on Reveal Records on 30 April.
