Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. If your idea of world music is DJ Kershaw’s distinctive vocals to Balkan beat backing of a band like The Destroyers, that’s what ‘Ramblin’ Andy’ is all about. Clearly ludicrous, Sarah’s computer home taping break core is exactly the oddball funny stuff that John Peel loved so much. After a couple of years of practice, she sent the much missed Radio 1 DJ a demo in 2004 off which he played ‘Animal Hop’ 9 times! The ‘replacement’ team of Huw Stephen’s and Rob da “I love any records with anything to do with animals on them” Bank continued Radio 1’s support and you may recall ‘Blue Parsley’ made it onto the Rob da Bank compilation, Folk Off — New Folk And Psychedelia From The British Isles And North America. This new EP follows last year’s album Are You Sitting Comfortably. As you can see by the cover , it’s a suitably bootleg cut’n’paste photo of Mrs. Nelson sitting on Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom organ. Not that Reggie Dixon could have any idea what ‘World Wide Hula’ is all about but he’d love the Hawaiian Kon Tiki. More guest appearances by Kershaw on the “w.w.w. dot”, he’s such a star. Back with the animals, ‘Real Jungle High’ is one for the ‘experimental’ section and at the other extreme, ‘Tempus Trumpus’ is based on the animated kids TV programme theme tune to Trumpton. Of course, she’s adapted the Listen With Mother moniker and I think pre-school kids would love these tracks, even the ‘Bored of Techno/Can’t Speak Now’ tape loop (definitely experimental). Listen with Sarah’s approach is a modern Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band music for the digital-radio show cassette tapers; especially fans of Andy Kershaw vocals . As you can’t live in the past, her time is now even if it is awfully difficult to explain why. Check the MySpace links below to be impressed and best check the Cherryade site for details as it’s a limited release. Hectic Mix nomination: ‘Ramblin “Barnsley, Italy, Burkina Faso, Camden Town, San Francisco, Cyprus, New York, London, ….Leeds University, Bournemouth .. ..names of funny places, BBC Maida Vale Studios, New South Wales” Andy’ and ‘World Wide Hula’.
