Low low low la la la love love love - Ends of June

Ends of June is near as damn it the definitive lo-fi sound, understated and intense with shades of Eliot Smith, Kings of Convenience and Neil Young.

low low low - Ends of June

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

It’s all shaky vocals, shaky guitars and shaky drums, thin harmonica and doubled up vocals (for added shakyness of course).

It’s navel gazing bedroom lo-fi at its best, (a quick scan of the credits finds most of the songs were written in a bedroom studio - no surprises there). It’s lifted by Ilhan’s production, which has that touch of the unexpected about it in its sensitive arrangements and prevents the songs from dragging their heels.

Choice cuts include ‘The Messy One’ with its cranked up drums, the delicate title track ‘Ends of June and ‘Iron in the Soul’, folky americana with hummable refrain ‘la la la, life goes on’, but the track of the album is ‘Fear of a Wide Open World’, which is a glorious builder and dipper and is worth buying the album for that alone.

Ends of June is released on Other Electricities.
